Christine McGinnis was born in Philadelphia and attended the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, on scholarship, where she was awarded many prizes including the Charles Toppan Prize and the Thomas Eakins Prize. She went on to win two Traveling scholarships as well, enabling her to study the masters in London, Paris, Madrid, Rome, and Berlin.
Her early influences were Gauguin, Ensor, and Bacon, but she has finally arrived at a unique style which combines animals, figures, multicultural artifacts, and exotic settings. Suffused with mystery and saturated colors, her work reaches a unique balance of vitality and energy.
She has shown in New York, London, Washington D.C., and Philadelphia. She is listed in “Who’s Who in American Art,” published by Marquis Who’s Who, has work in a number of public collections, and was awarded the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts Grant recently.
